About Us
The Global Mormon Studies Research Network is an independent network of scholars around the world who research global expressions of the diverse religious traditions whose historical foundations include the revelations of Joseph Smith Jr., and the Book of Mormon as a sacred text (including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Community of Christ, and others) and explore the significance of Mormonism as a global religious phenomenon.
The Global Mormon Studies Research Network is an academic group oriented around global research, relying on established scholarly methods, theory, discourse, and terminology across a broad range of languages, regions, cultures, and disciplines. It is not officially affiliated with any particular religious tradition, church, or group.
What We Do
- Facilitate collaboration, sharing of information and best practices, and dissemination of new and classic research by maintaining global hubs at www.globalmormonstudies.org, the globalmormonstudies@googlegroups.com email list, and Global Mormon Studies social media accounts.
- Encourage scholars to enter the field of global Mormon research, especially emerging scholars, scholars from the Majority World, and scholars whose primary academic field is not Mormon studies.
- Organize an annual Global Mormon Studies Conference.
- Encourage and support mentorship within our community.
- Develop a multi-lingual space in which scholars work to exchange ideas in the languages in which they can best express themselves.
- Fund an annual travel grant for a global student to attend the Mormon History Association Conference (application is through MHA).
